T. H. F. I AT A GLANCE
Tropical Health Foundation of India has now completed 18 years of glorious service to the humanity. We shall have miles to go in our efforts to serve the less able. With a humble beginning in a small hut with no resources, it is the hard work and sleepless efforts of Dr. K. Jacob Roy our chairman and late Maj. A. V. Thomas that we have reached this stage. Initially we had only four students. Today we have nearly 70 students coming to our school for special education and therapy. The prosthetic & Orthotic workshop with limited facilities has now succeeded in serving more than 6500 patients by supplying artificial limbs, aids / appliances. The Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy Unit at Arthat is able to handle many more new cases other than children with cerebral palsy. The therapist is now able to give gait training for amputees for strengthening of their stump and also other strengthening exercises. As our workshop is closer to the physiotherapy unit we are able to supply calipers, special chairs, walkers etc to our children with cerebral palsy coming for physiotherapy. The speech therapy unit with a speech trainer and a trainee succeeded in giving special education and speech therapy to many more students. The PSH Project (Partnership for sexual health) working for the prevention of HIV/AIDS which started its functioning on 1st November 2001 has now covered a vast target area and has very good relation with general public. |
